Halloween Dinner

I love Halloween. Any of you that really know me already know this. I prefer to have two Halloweens. One for the kids, and one for the adults. This year I had a modest Halloween dinner with some very good friends. As the night progressed, I regret that I did not take pictures of the food (fail). But I did take pictures of the table setting (half win).

The menu was a bit different, in that it was mainly vegetarian. Okay. Maybe not. But there was very little meat. This made the dinner very affordable and a little different. The menu was as follows:

Black Pasta (Squid Ink Pasta)
Lentil Soup - Simple with ham and carrots
Braised Asparagus
Banana squash with butter and brown sugar
Scallion and Garlic Bread
Cake or Death Chocolate Cake

This picture is not a picture of how I served it, but it looked very similar. I served it with minced garlic, olive oil, and mizithra cheese. Simple. And actually, a bit off-setting. Ask my quests. BUT it seemed good enough. Most of it was eaten, and I had made 2 packages.

I was going for an "earthy" but colorful theme, and to feed 6 of us (could have easily fed more) the price tag came to a modest $25. Lentils and pasta go a LONG way.

I dusted of my china, which I think we have used once in our 13 years of marriage and decided to go a little formal with the whole thing. This way, with the untraditional menu, it feels more like a party. I rarely sit to eat, and so this felt like a special occasion, indeed!

I still regret not taking pictures, but I have learned my lesson. All in all, I had fun. I hope my guests did, too.
